The History of this day is vast.
From orgies & outlawing marriages in Rome ~
to Love the one your with in the '60's
to a record number of Gay marriages in San Diego set in 1985:
Valentines day means many things to many people.
It is marketed and celebrated all over the world,
even in the Middle East where it is outlawed,
young Iranian boys and girls still purchase gifts
for each other and celebrate on this day.
One account of it begins in 270 AD in Rome:
270 AD - The history of St. Valentine's Day begins in Rome, in 270 AD . The Roman Emperor, Claudius II demanded that everyone worship the pagan gods that he worshiped. He also abolished marriage, and arrested anyone who disobeyed his rule. Many Christians were tortured and killed for their faith in God and trust in Jesus. There was a priest named Valentine who, despite the law of Claudius, continued to preach the word of God and perform marriage ceremonies, until he also was arrested ... more
He died on February 14, 269 AD, the same day that had been devoted to love lotteries. Legend also says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine" more history...
here's another one:
1400 - Using the language of the law courts for the rituals of courtly love, a 'High Court of Love' was established in Paris on Valentines Day in 1400. The court dealt with love contracts, betrayals and violence against women. more history...
The funniest valentine cartoon I saw, was several ladies shooting many arrows back at cupid...
all with the idea of get out of here! No more your stupid arrows, or love for me.
Electrons are found in quantum physics research right where the researcher wants them to be.
So the moral of all this lore, marketing, and habits from grade school crafts class on this day is that love it where you find it;
you can make it into what ever you want to believe.
My motto or mantra is simple Love is everywhere:
in the bud springing from the limb,
the flower blooming in winter,
the bee that collects and makes the honey;
The older couple celebrating 70 years of togetherness still holding hands, with their toothless smiles;
Slumdog millionaire's holding to honesty;
The attraction of molecules that bond to each other,
the rising of the sap in the tree, and falling of the nectar it produces to the roots,
the babies cry - why would it if it didn't think it would get help?
Love and hate are pretty much the same, they take the same focus and amount of time.
One who hates another takes great pain to get even or what ever with them...
they think about them all the time
consider ways to harm them
so I see that it is the Focus that defines love.
In the Bagavad Gita - the Hindu Bible Lord Krishna educates his disciple of this fact.
In the stories of Krishna as a boy he is hated so much by one that even he realises God, for his intense hatred of God created the focus on God; this resulted in liberation and God Realisation.
So if Love and Hate are the same - then what else is there?
save apathy, or drugs, which is sad to me; for that is where the Medical magicians have sentenced most to live today. They have created a 'painless' world of numbness.
I think we should love or hate pain - and focus on it, deal with it, fix it or create it,
it is a lot better than apathy or being out of the game of life.
eventually they will come out of even apathy
so :
Love is everywhere.
You just have to know how to recognise it.
Go cook up something you love to eat.
and the eaten loves you too.
Berries come to mind... I ate dates, + organic cottage cheese
it's what I had.
I loved it
& It loves me
(I can tell 'cause there's no pain inside,
no fuzzy eyes or feelings, it feels good)
