We have a little known form of valuable oil that is grown - yep grown, in Texas. Spindle top may not be best source of oil anymore.
Rhavda (pro: Rada) Cooper Emison the Texas Director of National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy, has been growing Essential and Infused herbal oils for over 30 years. Some of the plants she grows are impossible to grow in Texas, the experts in the field told her. And here she is growing them and turning these rare herbs into oils.
The oils have been used for healing since time immemorial, to stimulate responses such as aphrodisiacs, the circulation of the blood into areas that are in need. You name the malady and an herb and herbal infused oil has been used to remedy the cause.
You may note that the 'cause' is used. Acetaminophen, or aspirin, is a found in plants in nature. Now it is used almost universally in today's medicine. You can get the herbal natural substance in Arnica oil, or in homeopathic form, or a cream and gel. This is made from a little flower. It reduces pain and swelling or inflammation.
One of the main uses for essential oils, explains Rhavda, is in the cosmetic industry. So much so that rose oil - the essential oil of rose cannot be purchased in it's best quality. This is because the French and others pre- purchase entire crops of the best roses for their ingredients in creams, lotions, and potions. These are very effective in maintaining healthy skin and a young looking face. And yes, they are expensive.
A pound of rose essential oil may set you back over $6000. How ever, you can make your own. Rhavda does this, it takes her two years to let infusions blend well. These are the infused oils, though she could make the essential oil. Rhavda finds that hers works just a well, for less in more she says about how much oil to use.
Rhavda was drawn into the herbal field when she just had a child, and her hands were impaired by carpel tunnel. When visiting an herbalist by chance he after looking at her wrists, he said would you give me $15 for a few herbs? And in 3 weeks if it is not better, I will refund your money? well Duh ! she went for it. And she could hold, fold and do what ever necessary to take care of her new baby, and even work the computer too. She still cannot play the piano, as well though.
Better than the basically useless $6000 surgery I helped a friend go through for the same problem.
You too may like to learn about real Aromatherapy, or get certified by a real grower or just, read about or purchase the oils, Texas grown. We don't have to be dependent on foreign oil. You may like to grow your own to and co-op your oils with a whole network of local growers.
